Our Work

Since 2017, we have conducted and facilitated numerous workshops on mental health care, gender sensitization, and abuse. Our workshops have reached a diverse range of participants, including social workers, lawyers, students, teachers, and individuals from various communities. Through these engagements, we have been fortunate to interact with a wide array of individuals, learning from their valuable experiences. Their insights have played an instrumental role in enhancing our training modules, enabling us to continually improve our offerings.

Empowering mental/physical abuse survivors

Shipra Parswani, a Psychologist and Director at The Plane Jar Welfare Foundation discusses how they tackle issues related to mental/physical abuse and support the survivors. We discussed the following topics: 1. Tell us about The Plane Jar – what does the organisation stand for? 2. What motivates you for your work as a Psychologist/Therapist? 3. People often say just talking about trauma doesn’t help, how do you make it for effective for people who need your help? 4. How do you help people who have gone through or are going through abuse/mental health issues? 5. Southeast Asian culture is such that women are expected to stay quiet and endure mental trauma to keep the “family together”, no wonder we have seen so many unhappy marriages. I think that when one person is going through trauma and they don’t address it, they impose that trauma on others around them. As much as we want to cut people slack for having gone through mental trauma, are they justified in causing trauma to others? Like a typical example would be a mother-in-law who has seen tough times ends up imposing that trauma on a daughter in law (Borderline Personality Disorder). It’s like you have to pay the price of what happened to them. 6. It’s often said to cut off the people and relationships that affect your mental wellbeing. How effective is that in our society? 7. How to identify mental abuse patterns as an adult? 8. How to beat the stigma around mental health? Where does India stand today in your opinion? 9. How far have we come in terms of awareness of LGBTQ rights in terms of your interactions?
